Roberta Lauderdale was the Literacy Coordinator of the Altadena Library District. As a lifelong advocate of literacy she coordinated the training, programs, learners and tutors for the District. Mrs. Lauderdale’s advocacy also extends to another area, that of Special Olympics. As a mother of an intellectually challenged son, she began volunteering early on with the Pasadena Area Special Olympics program. She served as Assistant Coach and Area Director

Mrs. Lauderdale has been active in the Pasadena / Altadena community since arriving from New York in 1969. She was always a champion of education and serving others whenever and wherever possible. The birth of her son “Tang” changed the course of her life and has taken them both on a journey that was both challenging and up lifting. In 1978 Special Olympics became a partner in their journey providing a physical and mental stabilizing force throughout their lives.
